Uday Hussein’s cheetahs were among the star attractions at the Baghdad zoo. Almost three quarters of the zoo’s animals, more than 600 in all, escaped or were looted in the chaotic days after the fall of Baghdad. The cages were partially repopulated with an exotic menagerie found at one of Uday’s palaces, including three strutting ostriches and a pride of seven lions.
