This massive statue of an Iraqi fighter pilot is positioned on top of the real-life wreckage of an Iranian air force jet, downed during the devstating war between the two countries from 1980-88. The pilot, Abdulla L’eiby, is celebrated as Iraq’s best known kamikaze for deliberately flying his jet into an Iranian bomber before it could unleash its lethal load over Baghdad.
